Chapter Seven

Mercy

He means every word. I know he does. I recognize the grit and determination that comes over him when he sets his mind to doing something. I just never had it all squarely focused on me before now, and it makes me squirm.

Admittedly, I like it. My body doesn’t do such a good job of hiding the truth either. The silk strip of my panties is soaked and I can feel it getting wetter by the second.

Still, a fierce blush flashes across my cheeks at the dirty image of all three men seeing, touching and spanking my ass.

I close my eyes, taking a steadying breath.

What is wrong with me? I want to bury my face in my hands, but I hold back just barely. The only thing more embarrassing than getting wet at their promised punishment is letting them know it.

I didn't mean to throw the past at them or to hurt any of them, that’s just not who I am, but I see the pain I’ve caused stare back at me from the men I once loved.

“What does that mean? You’re not really going to spank me.” Playing coy really isn’t me either, but I’m trying to buy myself some time to mentally prepare.

Linc narrows his dark eyes, but it’s Cain who answers. “Exactly what he said, Mercy baby. Remember you’re getting only the truth from us.”

“We’ve always loved you, but evidently our word isn’t good enough,” Grant grumbled lowly. “Let’s show it. I want to see that ass rosy pink from our hands. One for every lie you want to keep between us. That damn wall of yours is going to come down one way or another.”

“Wall?” I ask. But I know what he’s talking about. The first cement block went up the second the three of them turned their backs on me and each day a new one went up, held in place by all the anger I’ve felt toward them.

God, that makes me sound so bitter, but in reality, I’m just tired of being hurt all the time. No man has ever touched me the way they have, and it’s stolen any chances of me ever being intimate with anyone. I’ve tried, but much to my disappointment and others, I’ve never gotten past second base. It’s been close. But the second anything close to sex happens I close up.

All because it was never them touching me.

But I refuse to let them know that.

I hear the sincerity in Grant’s words, but I can’t bring myself to believe they know what love means. It means you do anything it takes to be with the ones you love. Not running off to war. How when they left me to believe the opposite for so long? That plays with a woman’s mind. To flip a switch? Nah. Not that easy.

Or maybe it is? I think I’m about to find out.

I blink back at Lincoln, and I can see he’s no longer playing.

I swallow thickly.

A spanking.

I roll the word around in my mind, and I’m not sure what turns me on more.
